Oasis Camp Activities
The Oasis Dance Camps is proud to offer, annually since 1985, the most unique and exciting Middle Eastern dance experience for dancers the world over. Oasis is seriously about dance. It's about demanding classes, working hard, sweating, getting up early and going to bed late. It's about opening your mind and challenging your body. Oasis is also about maximum enjoyment and inspiration, meeting old friends and making new friends from all over the world and having fun. Leave your stress behind for an exhilarating four days of dance and discovery. You will return inspired, renewed and a better dancer! Classes are arranged to provide the best instruction for dancers at all skill levels from novice to advanced. With the addition of our new beginner level classes dancers with little or no experience will find a great place to start.
- Pre-Camp Master Class – To get the most from our
time with Cassandra, a pre-camp Master Level Class is offered at each
camp. The class meets on the Wednesday camp begins at 2:00 pm. This session
is offered to campers first but available to non-campers as space permits.
- Morning Classes -Emphasis on basic technique with layering
of advanced elements. Classes are designed to work and challenge you at
your individual level. Technique classes with Cassandra and our guest
teacher. Beginner/Novice Level Technique classes with Zulaika.
- Afternoon Classes - Cassandra, our guest teacher and Zulaika each teach a choreography or specific dance form during each of the four days of camp.
- Drum Classes - Nicole teaches group classes in percussion technique and basic rhythm patterns. She also offers private coaching. (Sign up for a private sessions at camp.) Bring percussion instruments for class.
- Specialty and Costuming Classes - “Sit down” classes on relevant topics.
- Sunrise Classes - Greet the dawn with an optional dance conditioning and stretch class. Great for hard working muscles.
- Hafla Performance Party - A private performance for the best audience in the world - the Oasis Dance Campers! Everyone is encouraged to perform. Five minute time limit (solo, duet, or group) so everyone has a chance tp perform.
- Dance Library - Browse our extensive library of books, magazines, pictures of dancing, etc. Bring your own photo album to share and bring a photo of yourself to hang in the “Star Gallery”.
- Evening of Video Viewing - Old tapes or new DVD's. If you have something special to share bring it along (cued up). The teachers will bring their own special videos for viewing.
- Oasis Boutique & Dance Bazaar - Exciting merchandise from our own very special vendors along with camp souvenirs & T-shirts.
- Camper Flea Market - Time is set aside for bartering and exchanging your own used and useful treasures. Bring items to sell or trade.
- Henna and Dance Party - Featuring the world famous Oasis Dance Camp Band led by Nicole LeCorgne (bring your drums, zils, tambourines or other musical instrument). We'll play, dance, and relieve all stress with the zar. Become henna artists and decorate ourselves in this ancient way. Wear a caftan or other comfortable party clothes and bring a Thobe for dancing.
- Video Critique - This is a unique opportunity for a one-on-one session with Cassandra. Bring a pre-recorded video or DVD of yourself dancing, to camp. It can be from a show or a home video of a dance you are working on. Cassandra will review it with you in a private session. She will help you pick out your strong points, give suggestions to improve your dance, and stress technique that will help you become a better dancer.
